Defence Products
GT Machining & Fabricating Ltd.'s defence business is a Canadian Industrial Benefits success story. GT cut its teeth in the military business back in the late 1980s manufacturing HLVW truck components for the Canadian Army as part of the IRB program. GT capitalized on this experience and has since gone on to deliver engine and transmission containers, bridging pallets, medium and heavy container handling units as well as provide crane and cargo box overhaul services to US Army TACOM, the Canadian Army and the Dutch Army.
In July 2017, GT was awarded a 5-year contract by US Army TACOM to manufacture 300 Bridge Adapter Pallets (BAPs) to transport, launch and retrieve the Army's new Bridge Erection Boats (BEBs). In addition, GT is currently producing medium container handling units (CHUs) for the US Army's FMTV fleet and troop seats for the Canadian Army MSVS project.
After a 10 year manufacturing run, GT Machining & Fabricating Ltd. closed out the US Army TACOM Enhanced Container Handling Unit (ECHU) project in 2017. This prime contract required extensive testing at the Yuma and Aberdeen Proving Grounds leading to Materiel Release and the eventual successful fielding of over 6,200 ECHU's.
